American found dead in Nong Khai
NONG KHAI - The body of a 63-year-old American has been found inside his home by his ex-wife and it is believed he fell down the stairs and died about 10 days earlier.
Police received a report on Monday of the foreigner's death at a village in tambon Wat That in Muang district.
The body was discovered lying at the foot of the stairs in the two-storey house, police said. There was no sign of a break in and the man had a wound on the head.
Investigators suspect he may have fallen down the stairs and knocked his head. It is estimated he had been dead about 10 days.
According to his ex-wife, Walailak, the deceased American was named Ronnie. He had been residing in Thailand since his retirement. He attended a Christmas party at her home in Sakhrai district on Dec 25 and was last seen out drinking with friends on Dec 28.
After the New Year, Ms Wilailak tried to call his house but no one picked up the phone. She said she decided to pay him a visit and on arrival noticed a foul smell comng from the house so she decided to call the police.
The American's body will be kept at Nong Khai hospital and the US embassy will be asked to notify his relatives.
