Phuket is trying to repair its damaged reputation in order to remain the favorite Thai tourist destination. One of the ways of doing that is a new law, saying that all ladyboys must wear a special bracelet when working at girly bars. The ladyboys are furious.
In recent years the reputation of Phuket being a perfect tourist destination has suffered. Tourists are complaining about the prices and the quality on the island.
Another, yet more colorful complaint has been concerning the ladyboys in girly bars. Apparently the ladyboys are too successful getting tourist to take them home to their hotel, where the tourist have been shocked to learn that they didn’t bring home a girl. Massive complaints from tourists have now led to a drastic new law on the island.
- Starting from the 1st of January 2013, every ladyboy working at a girly bar will have to wear a special blue bracelet. That way the tourist will know, who are born as girls and who are ladyboys, says Mr. D. Irty, tourist minister on Phuket, to www.rumbotailandia.com
