Free Wifi in tourist spots around Thailand launched
BANGKOK, 20 September 2012 (NNT) – Local and foreign tourists will soon be able to stay connected to the internet free of charge wherever they are as more than 1,600 free WiFi routers will be installed around the country under a campaign called ‘ICT Free WiFi For Tourism’.
The installation of hi-speed internet is a joint effort between the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to promote the economy via domestic tourism.
According to ICT Minister Group Captain Anudit Nakorntap, the move is supportive to the government’s policy targeting 2 trillion baht in annual tourism revenue by 2015.
Of the planned 1,615 routers, 253 will be put up in major tourist attractions in Bangkok. 446 more will be installed elsewhere in the central region, 201 in the East, 323 in the South and 325 in the North while 67 in ‘Isan’ or the Northeast.
